2019 Officers of the Florida Conference of Circuit Judges

Naples – The Florida Conference of Circuit Judges elected the 2019 officers at their annual conference held during the week of August 6, 2018. Circuit Judge Angela J. Cowden from the Tenth Circuit was sworn in as Conference Chair, Circuit Judge Beatrice Butchko from the Eleventh Circuit as the Chair-Elect, Circuit Judge Carol Falvey from the Fifth Circuit as Treasurer, and Circuit Judge Alan S. Apte from the Ninth Circuit as Secretary.

Judge Cowden served as a Polk County Judge from 2003 until she was appointed to the Tenth Judicial Circuit Court by Governor Charlie Christ in 2008. She is currently assigned to the Juvenile, Probate, Family, and Domestic Divisions. Judge Cowden completed her bachelors and M.B.A. at Florida Southern College and received her juris doctorate from Stetson University College of Law.

Judge Butchko was appointed to the Eleventh Judicial Circuit Court by Governor Jeb Bush in 2006. She is currently assigned to the Complex Business Litigation Division and serves as the Associate Administrative Judge of the Circuit Civil Division. Judge Butchko completed her bachelor’s degree at the University of Florida and received her juris doctorate from De Paul University College of Law.

Judge Falvey was appointed to the Fifth Judicial Circuit Court by Governor Jeb Bush in 2005. She is currently assigned to Family Law and Mortgage Foreclosure Divisions. Judge Falvey completed her bachelor’s degree at the University of Notre Dame and received her juris doctorate from the University of Florida College of Law

Judge Apte was first elected to the Ninth Judicial Circuit Court in 2002. Over the course of his career he has served in both Orange and Osceola Counties in the Juvenile, Criminal, and Unified Family Court, Domestic Violence, and Violation of Probation, and Family divisions. He is currently assigned to the Orange County Domestic Relations Division. Judge Apte completed his bachelor’s at the University of Miami and received his juris doctorate from Nova University School of Law.

The officers of the conference serve a one year term. The purpose of the conference is to provide ongoing training to judges so they can effectively and efficiently meet their constitutional and statutory duties and responsibilities.

The Florida Conference of Circuit Judges would like to thank Past-Chair, Circuit Judge Scott Bernstein of the Eleventh Circuit and Past-Chair Emeritus, Circuit Judge Jeffrey J. Colbath of the Fifteen Circuit for their service to the Conference.
