Court Reporting

Court reporting is the process of capturing the word-for-word record of everything spoken in a legal proceeding. The Tenth Judicial Circuit uses both contracted court stenographers and centralized digital court reporting to capture a complete and accurate verbatim record of the non-civil court proceedings.

ELECTRONIC COURT REPORTING

The method of court reporting in the Tenth Circuit is electronic court reporting for cases that the Electronic Court Reporters Office are required to record. Hearings include all misdemeanor and traffic cases, child support cases, felony cases, domestic violence hearings and juvenile cases. Felonies of the first and second degree jury selections, jury trials and termination of parental rights cases are covered by contracted stenographic court reporters.

We have OpenCourt installed in Polk, Highlands and Hardee Counties. This method uses digital audio equipment to record court proceedings. The court reporters monitor the proceeding, makes tags for the cases called, identifies speakers and listens to the recording to ensure its clarity and quality. Electronic reporters often are responsible for producing a written transcript of the recorded proceeding. If a requesting party wishes to have an audio recording of the proceedings, an audio CD can also be purchased.

Our office has a staff of 14, 12 of which work in the Polk County Office and 2 staff work in the Highlands Office covering both Highlands and Hardee Counties.
